Extensions

Extensions (plugins) add features without changing sc-cms itself. Only Administrators can manage them.

Each extension asks for specific permissions, such as “Add blocks to the editor” or “Make requests to the hosts listed in its manifest”. You approve them when installing, and the extension can’t do anything else.

  • Sandboxed extensions run separately from the site and are checked against a digital signature. If one has been tampered with, it’s marked Can’t be verified and can’t be installed.
  • Built in extensions are part of the site’s own code.
  1. Open an extension, review what it asks to do, tick each permission, and choose Approve and install.
  2. Activate it. Its blocks appear in the editor, and its pages appear on the site.
  3. Fill in its Settings, if it has any.

On the extension’s page you can also:

  • Deactivate it. Its data is kept, and its blocks stop showing on pages until it’s active again.
  • Check health, and see the last error if something’s wrong.
  • Download its data as a file.
  • Open its own admin pages, such as Form submissions or Orders.
  • Update when a new version arrives with a release. If it asks for new permissions, you approve them first.
  • Uninstall (after deactivating). This deletes everything it stored; your pages, posts, and media aren’t affected. Download its data first if you might need it.

Secret settings, such as API keys, are never shown again after saving. The box says Saved. Leave blank to keep it. Type a new value only to replace the key. Secrets are left out of data downloads and site exports.

New extensions arrive with a release; see Updates and releases.

Each release of sc-cms includes only the newest version of each extension. When your site still runs an older version, sc-cms updates it for you within a few minutes of the release, keeping its settings and everything it stored. The update appears in the Activity log as done by the system.

It can’t do that on its own when the new version asks for new permissions (or needs another extension updated first). Until you update it, the extension is turned off: its blocks don’t show on your pages, and its pages and forms don’t answer. You’ll see this:

  • on the Dashboard, under Needs attention
  • in Extensions, where the extension is marked Not running with an Update to … button
  • on the extension’s page, for example: This site runs Forms 2.0.0, which this version of the CMS no longer includes. Update it to 2.2.0 to turn its blocks back on.

Open the extension, tick the new permissions under Update to …, and choose Approve and update. Its blocks come back on your pages straight away, with nothing lost. If the box explains that the new version can’t be installed (for example, it can’t be verified), contact whoever runs your site.

Build forms in the admin, put them on pages with the Form block, get submissions by email, and export them as a spreadsheet. See Forms.

A search page at /search, a Search box block that sends visitors there, and a Search results block that puts a search box with its results on any page. The words found are highlighted, and longer result lists get page numbers. Set Results per page on the block, or leave it at 0 to use the plugin’s setting (1 to 50). Only published content is searched, and old links such as /search?query=voice still work.

Adds a privacy-friendly analytics script from Plausible or Umami Cloud to public pages. Choose the Provider and enter your Site domain (Plausible) or website ID (Umami). Nothing is added until it’s configured.

Adds structured information for search engines: your organization’s name and logo, page breadcrumbs, and verification codes for Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Missing pages lists addresses visitors tried that don’t exist, with visit counts and where the links came from. Redirect any of them in one step, or Import redirects from a CSV file (from,to per line), which is handy when moving from another website.
