Translations and languages

An administrator turns on languages under Settings → Languages: a Default language (a code such as en) and All languages (such as en, fr, de).

Pages in the default language keep their usual addresses. Other languages get a prefix: /fr/about. The theme adds a language switcher for visitors.

Open the page in the editor. The languages bar shows Language: and, for each other language, either a link to the existing translation (with its status) or a Translate into language button.

A translation starts as a copy of the original’s draft. It’s a separate item with its own address, review, and publishing, so you can translate at your own pace. If your site has AI assistance, Translate with AI creates a translated draft for you to check.

  • Content lists can be filtered by language.
  • Menus, categories and tags, the site name, and the tagline are shared by all languages.
  • A language can’t be removed while it has content.
